The truth of the Weekly Cover Thing is this: I record these for a group on Facebook called Theme Music. Every week we’re given a theme and then we all record videos of songs that fit that theme. What started as a group of people mainly in Atlanta eventually stretched up the east coast and out to the west coast, comprised of complete novices to professional musicians. Perhaps most shocking is that it has remained an unbelievably supportive place through it all… it deserves a good bit of credit for me starting this whole music mess back up, and I feel very lucky to be a part of it. You can see a great selection of some of the other amazing videos made for the group HERE, as well as learn about the Themestock event coming in Atlanta, where 30 or so members from across the country are gathering to play a show together in October!
One of the most amazing things that’s developed over time are collaborations between members, sometimes in the same state but just as often separated by huge distances. Through various means, various skill levels, and varying equipment we piece together songs and videos and the results are, I don’t mind saying, magical. This week’s Weekly Cover Thing is one of those, that I was also lucky to be part of…
Christian Nesmith and Circe Link are a couple of incredible musicians from Los Angeles who I cannot suggest strongly enough you seek out and listen to (one week they felt that one of MY songs fit the theme and, if you haven’t seen it by now, you can see the results HERE). We bonded over numerous things, but one of them was our not-so-secret love of seventies prog-rock which, when the right theme came along, resulted in this video. Vocals by Circe and myself, all music by Christian.
Very nice!
That Christian guy is good – and he has a famous grandmother (She invented liquid paper).
And, oh yeah, his dad did something too, not what was it…?
