Brief words about two shows.
Saturday I did a solo show at the If Coffeehouse, which is a small little place behind the Star Bar in Atlanta that looks like the sort of singer-songwriter place you’d see in a movie that starred Reese Witherspoon (lip-synching to songs actually sung by, let’s say, Lisa Loeb) as a struggling singer-songwriter desperate to break free from the… well, you get the idea. Anyway, it’s a nice little room. Sue Witty, with whom I have performed many shows over time and also sang backing vocals on her new CD is leaving the US for a year and so this was one last writers’ night show. I had expected a light crowd but actually it was possibly one of the better turnouts I’ve ever seen there. Not much, though, in the way of details apart from covers performed (Michael Penn’s “Long Way Down” and an a capella “Tempted”) and my part-time stalker continually requesting (cruelly, I might add) Radiant City songs.
Sunday was a benefit show at the 10 High for the Dekalb Humane Society. Seven bands in one night, though thankfully we all shared a drum kit. The night actually went off much more smoothly than I imagined, though the crowd was really pretty small. Another night in Atlanta.
